Frequently asked questions

What are some common kitchen plumbing problems?

The most common kitchen plumbing issues we encounter are leaking taps or pipes, blocked drains, broken Insinkerators, low water pressure or compromised hot water.

Can I fix my kitchen plumbing problems myself, or do I need a professional plumber?

You may be able to DIY a straightforward clogged pipe. Please read our blog article on how to unblock a drain. However, for the most part, we recommend a professional plumber to take care of your kitchen plumbing issues. Your insurance company or product warranty might require professional work. However, red tape aside, getting a professional on the job will mitigate further problems (that could snowball).

How often should I have my kitchen plumbing checked or maintained?

We recommend an annual overall house plumbing inspection. This will consider every room in the home and will give you a lot of peace of mind. Nipping any problems in the bud can save a small fortune, not to mention the time and stress involved in emergency plumbing or large-scale repair work.

What are some signs that I need to replace my kitchen plumbing fixtures or pipes?

Depending on the problems, common signs include frequent leaks, rusted pipes, low water pressure, regularly blocked drains, strange pipe noises, and unpleasant smells. Another common, albeit less urgent, reason is aesthetics - many clients replace kitchen plumbing as part of an overall kitchen upgrade or renovation.

How can I prevent kitchen plumbing problems from occurring in the first place?

Avoid putting anything down the sink aside from water. Your sink is not the kitchen garbage collector; it will eventually complain! Use a sink strainer, as that helps catch little bits and pieces you might otherwise miss. Flush drains regularly with hot water (consider adding a tablespoon or two of Bicarb of Soda). If you see cracks, leaks or drips, fix them fast - don’t let them escalate into more significant issues. Don’t allow pipes to get too cold over winter.
