CCTV Drain Camera Inspection

A drain camera is a special closed circuit television (CCTV) plumbing camera that can be put down your sewer or stormwater line to locate the cause of a blocked drain. Such an inspection is recommended for reoccuring blockages. Problems with the line being inspected will show up on the video and this will show a plumber the best course of action to take to permanently prevent a blocked sewer or stormwater line reoccurring in the future.

Prevent a reoccurring blocked sewer or stormwater line with a drain camera inspection

A drain camera is sometimes necessary because simply clearing the blocked sewer or stormwater line does not reveal what caused it to block in the first place. A high pressure water blaster or an electric eel will remove the immediate cause of a blockage, but to use an analogy these plumbing tools often only treat the symptoms. There is no way to tell what caused the blockage, and thus there is no certainty that it won't reoccur. Without a CCTV drain camera inspection it would not be possible to know what caused the blocked sewer or stormwater line, and without this knowledge it can be difficult for a plumber to address the real cause.

Once performed, the drain camera would show that, for instance, a section of broken pipe needs to be replaced. In this situation a blocked sewer caused by tree roots could have been cleared using a electric eel or a high pressure water blaster. This would only have cleared the immediate problem though. The breach will remain in the sewer line, unseen unless a drain camera inspection is carried out. It will often act as a 'lip' that catches anything that is flushed, leading to further blockages. Plus it will only be a matter of time before the tree roots grow into the line again once they have found access to the water that originally attracted them. The drain camera recording would show all this, and the section of broken pipe could be then replaced to permanently prevent that blocked sewer reoccurring.

To carry out an inspection using this specialised plumbing tool the blockage must first be cleared, and then a CCTV plumbing camera sent down the line. This will enable your plumber to view the inside of your stormwater or sewer line and find the cause of your blockage. If you have a reoccurring blocked drain call PAV Plumbing now to arrange a drain camera inspection.
